I served in the United States Army from 2008 to 2016, completing four years of active duty and four years in the Reserves. My service included a deployment to Afghanistan, where combat‑related injuries ultimately changed the course of my military career. Originally from Rockford, Michigan, I moved to Colorado in 2012 through military service and have called it home ever since. Education has always been important to me and over the years I’ve earned a broad academic background across several fields. I now work for the Colorado Department of Agriculture as a regulatory officer. My journey into fly fishing and fly tying began about a decade ago, when a group of Veteran mentors introduced me to the craft. Although I grew up fishing with traditio…Read More

I got involved with Platte Rivers Veterans Fly Fishing group when I met Duane Cook and Kevin Yarborough at a small, local, flyfishing expo in 2019. I asked if I could donate some excess (yeah right) fly tying material to the group. They did not want any material, but asked if I would be interested in filling in as a beginning fly tying instructor. Thus began a very rewarding journey with a wonderful group of people. I am a Wyoming native, born in Evanston, WY. I am a UW graduate. My best friend and fishing partner, Kathy, and I have been married for 42 years. We have 3 children and 3 grandchildren, whom we love to take fishing. They have all tried their hand at fly tying, and some have become quite skilled. I began fly fishing in the Smiths …Read More

I was born & raised in Lakewood Colorado and moved to Laramie in 1979. I retired from the Navy in 2005 after 28 years of military service. In 2021, I retired from the University of Wyoming after working as a Database Analyst on the Student Information System for 25 years. I took my first class from Platte Rivers about 9 years ago. I started helping with the Laramie Chapter and have taken on some leadership roles since I retired 3 years ago. I really enjoy teaching rod building. It is amazing to see the creativity some of our Vets have when building their first rod. Since retiring, I have had the opportunity to really get involved in fly fishing. I don’t claim my technique has improved any, but I have caught some nice fish.Read More

PRVFF provides a great way for me to combine my love of all things fly fishing with my desire to support our veterans.
