Dates: August 21-24, 2023

Location: Antonito, CO. Elevation: 8,074 feet.

Lodging: Conejos Anglers Cabins – 3 cabins w/two beds per cabin. Cabins are roomy, clean and comfortable; each cabin is 0.2 miles from the Conejos River. CABIN AMENITIES INCLUDE: Full kitchen, living room, free WiFi, satellite TV, and an outdoor grill.

The Fishery: The Conejos is a beautiful river that is not floatable via drift boat or raft. The most plentiful fish in the river are small to large brown trout. Some rainbows and Rio Grande Cutts can be had as well. Public water and private (Rocky Mountain Angling Club) will be fished.

Flies: The Conejos is one of three western rivers where 35 species of stonefly are found. Black Hare’s Ear Nymphs in size 8 – 16. San Juan worms patterns in burgundy and dark wooly buggers in sizes 6 – 12 will pickup fish. Dry fly action will be limited this time of year. However, the river is loaded with numerous drake species.

Misc: Anglers to provide own gear. Expect unpredictable weather. Dress in layers. Rods 5wt to 6 wt., Tippets 4X to 5X.

Intermediate to advanced skill level required.

This is a walk-wade stream fishing trip, covering a mile or two from the vehicle. Reasonable casting ability will be needed to place dry-dropper rigs.
