Trip Lead: Steve McCoy

Participants: 10

Dates: September 11 – 15, 2023

Location: Leadville, CO. Elevation: 10,200 feet.

Lodging: Four (4) nights lodging at a large cozy mountain home in Leadville.

Fishing venues: We will be wade fishing small streams, larger streams and a large river. Some of the wade fishing will be on public water and some will be on private leases.  Stillwater fishing venues are on private water that can accommodate float tubes or pontoons – no motors.

We work hard to offer a successful experience for participants of all fishing and physical abilities.

About:  Soldier Day was the initial multi-day trip put forth by PRVFF and carries that name because it was conducted at Camp Hale, the training grounds of the 10th Mountain Division before they deployed to the European Theater during WWII.  We still fish the headwaters of the Eagle River at Camp Hale and take a tour of the pictorial markers there.

Special Considerations: Leadville sits at 10,200 ft. in elevation and the majority of our fishing will be done at that altitude or a bit higher. Travelling to Leadville will entail going through the Eisenhower Tunnel that sits at 11,013 feet and over Fremont Pass that crests at 11,319 feet. It is essential that you are capable of functioning at that altitude.

Please note that most of the terrain on this trip can be challenging. Steep cliffs, uneven terrain, fast moving water, and slippery rocks should be expected! Even for the most sure-footed we recommend a walking stick or wading staff.

REGISTRATION: Registration opens 6 weeks prior to trip start. Register here.
